Dear Tencent Cloud customers,
Thank you for your long-term attention and support for Tencent Cloud. Starting from April 01, 2026, 00:00:00 (UTC+8), the monitoring and billing metrics of layer-7 listeners for Tencent Cloud Load Balancer (CLB) instances are adjusted. The details are as follows.
Background
Tencent Cloud CLB provides monitoring data for two segments, including data from clients to an LB and data from an LB to real servers. Due to historical product architecture involving legacy accounts (non-migration bandwidth accounts), billing data is aggregated and reported on real servers, which reflects data from an LB to real servers.
● For layer-4 listeners, traffic is transparently distributed so that the monitoring data from clients to an LB and from an LB to real servers remains consistent.
● For layer-7 listeners, the monitoring data from clients to an LB and from an LB to real servers is inconsistent because operations, such as certificate offloading and request processing by CLB, need to be performed.
As legacy accounts (non-migration bandwidth accounts) are progressively upgraded, the continuous use of data from an LB to real servers for the billing metrics of layer-7 listeners will cause rate limiting and inconsistencies of monitoring and billing data. To deliver better service and product experience, Tencent Cloud plans to adjust the monitoring and billing metrics of layer-7 listeners for CLB instances. This prevents rate limiting, ensures consistencies of monitoring and billing data, and optimizes product experience. For more information about how to upgrade a legacy account (non-migration bandwidth account), see Upgrade Announcements.
Current Situation
Data from an LB to real servers is used for the billing metrics of layer-7 listeners. Data from clients to an LB is used for bandwidth rate limiting at the instance level.
● The inconsistency between data used for rate limiting and billing may lead to customer misunderstandings.
● After a layer-7 CLB instance is added to a BWP, inconsistencies in rate limiting, monitoring, and billing occur at the BWP level. This may mislead customers.
After Upgrade
For public network CLB instances with layer-7 listeners deployed, data used for the billing metrics is changed to data from clients to an LB. To ensure data consistency, adjustments are made in monitoring and billing data for a BWP.
● For new users, if no public network CLB instances with layer-7 listeners deployed exist in their accounts before April 1, 2026, 00:00:00 (UTC+8), data from clients to an LB is automatically used for the billing and monitoring metrics of layer-7 listeners deployed for existing and new instances after April 1, 2026, 00:00:00 (UTC+8).
● For existing users, if public network CLB instances with layer-7 listeners deployed exist in their accounts before April 1, 2026, 00:00:00 (UTC+8), the data used for the monitoring and billing metrics of existing layer-7 listeners is adjusted for instances in batches after April 1, 2026, 00:00:00 (UTC+8). After adjustment, data from clients to an LB is used. Before adjustment, data from an LB to real servers is used.
Upgrade Impact
1. The adjustment and upgrade do not impact traffic forwarding of CLB.
2. CLB monitoring data is not changed and affected.
3. The adjustment and upgrade may impact billing. The specific impact scope varies based on your business model. If you encounter any questions, please submit a ticket.
4. After the adjustment and upgrade, changes to monitoring data for a BWP and the public network bandwidth vary based on your business model. Keep an eye on the changes. If your service continues to run as expected, ignore the changes.
The affected monitoring metrics are as follows:
● For a BWP, the involved metrics include Inbound bandwidth, Outbound bandwidth, Inbound packet count, Outbound packet count, Inbound traffic, Outbound traffic, Inbound bandwidth utilization, and Outbound bandwidth utilization.
● For the public network bandwidth, the involved metrics include Single-region public network inbound bandwidth and Single-region public network outbound bandwidth, using the pay-by-traffic billing mode.
