DDoS Defender Upgrade/Downgrade Guide

Note:
1. The billing model below applies to customers onboarded after 12 January 2026.
2. DDoS Defender can be attached only to EdgeOne Standard or Enterprise Plan zones (domains and L4 proxy instances); other EdgeOne plan versions are not supported.
After purchasing a DDoS Defender plan, you can upgrade to a higher edition to unlock additional capabilities or downgrade to a lower edition by changing the plan configuration. This process will convert the remaining validity period of your current plan to the new edition. This article describes how to upgrade your plan and the key points to keep in mind.
Change-plan (upgrade / downgrade) rules
Supported scenarios & limits
Essential Plan → Premium Plan: no restrictions
Premium Plan → Essential Plan: you must have used ≤ 2 mitigation sessions in the current month
Add any protection-capacity add-on: no restrictions
Remove protection-capacity add-on: not allowed while any protections is set to Ultimate protection level under Tencent Cloud root account
Add extra clean-traffic quota or protected-resource quota: no restrictions
After a successful change:
Start and expiry times remain the same as before the change.
If you originally bought a multi-month term, the whole remaining term is converted to the new edition.
Auto-renewal, once enabled, will renew at the new edition’s price when the term ends.
Fee Description
Upgrade fee = Incomplete cycle upgrade fee for the currently effective plan + complete cycle upgrade fee for the purchased but not activated plan
Incomplete cycle upgrade fee = (Upgraded plan monthly price - Original plan monthly price) × (Remaining days of the current cycle / Total days of the month)
Remaining days of the current cycle = Expiration date of the current plan cycle - date of the plan change
Complete cycle upgrade fee = (Upgraded plan monthly price - Original plan monthly price) × Number of complete cycles
Upgrade / Downgrade Guide
Example: You are currently on the Essential Plan and want to upgrade to the Premium Plan. Follow the steps below:
1. Log in to the Tencent Cloud EdgeOne console, then in the left-hand menu click DDoS Plan Management.
2. On the DDoS Plan Management page, click Change Plan in the top-right corner.
3. In the change-plan dialog, select the target configuration, tick the service-agreement and refund-policy boxes, and click Confirm.
4. You will be redirected to the order-confirmation page; select any available voucher and click Submit Order.
5. Choose your preferred payment method and complete the payment.
