How does NB-IoT connect to the Internet?

Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) connects to the Internet through a specialized cellular network. Here's how NB-IoT connects to the Internet:

  1. Cellular Network: NB-IoT uses existing cellular infrastructure, such as 4G LTE networks, but operates on a separate spectrum or within the guard bands of LTE. This allows it to coexist with other cellular services without interference.

  2. Low-Power Mode: Devices using NB-IoT spend most of their time in a low-power sleep mode to conserve energy. They wake up periodically to send or receive data, which minimizes power consumption.

  4. Internet Connectivity: From the core network, the data is routed to the Internet or to a specific server where it can be processed or stored. Conversely, when the device needs to receive data, the process is reversed.

The meter communicates via NB-IoT to a nearby cell tower, which then forwards the data through the mobile network's core to the utility company's server. This allows for efficient monitoring and billing without requiring frequent battery replacements.
