After the domain name is connected to WAF, how to bind CNAME?

To bind a CNAME record after connecting a domain name to a Web Application Firewall (WAF), you typically follow these steps:

  1. Access DNS Management: Log in to your domain registrar or DNS hosting provider's control panel where your domain's DNS records are managed.

  2. Locate the DNS Records: Find the section where you can add or edit DNS records. This is usually found under a "DNS Manager," "Domain Settings," or similar section.

  3. Add a CNAME Record: Click on the option to add a new record. Select "CNAME" as the record type.

  4. Enter CNAME Details:

    • Host: This is the alias or subdomain you want to create. For example, if you want to create a CNAME for www.example.com, you would enter www.
    • Points to: This is the destination or target of the CNAME record. Enter the CNAME provided by your WAF provider. This is usually a domain name associated with the WAF service, such as waf.example.com.
  5. Save Changes: After entering the details, save the changes. DNS propagation can take some time, usually up to 24-48 hours, for the changes to take effect globally.

Example:
If your domain is example.com and you want to bind a CNAME record for www.example.com to point to your WAF service, you would:

  • Go to your DNS management panel.
  • Add a new CNAME record.
  • Set the Host to www.
  • Set the Points to value to the CNAME provided by your WAF service, e.g., waf.example.com.
  • Save the record.

Recommendation for Cloud Services:
If you are using Tencent Cloud, you can manage your DNS records through the Tencent Cloud DNSPod service. It offers a straightforward interface to add and manage CNAME records, ensuring your domain points to the correct WAF service. Additionally, Tencent Cloud's Web Application Firewall (Tencent Cloud WAF) provides robust security features to protect your web applications from various threats.
