How to back up and restore data in Tencent Cloud Data Warehouse?

Backing up and restoring data in Tencent Cloud Data Warehouse (TCDB) is essential for ensuring data security and business continuity. TCDB provides automated and manual backup options, as well as flexible restore capabilities.

1. Automated Backups

TCDB automatically performs daily backups by default, retaining them for a configurable period (usually 7–30 days). These backups are stored in a highly durable storage system, ensuring data safety.

Example:
If your TCDB instance is set to retain backups for 14 days, the system will automatically create a full backup every day and keep the last 14 backups.

2. Manual Backups

You can manually trigger a backup at any time for critical data operations. Manual backups are stored separately and do not affect the automated backup schedule.

Example:
Before performing a large-scale data update, you can manually back up the database to ensure you can revert if needed.

3. Restoring Data

To restore data, you can choose from:

  • Restore to the same instance: Reverts the database to a previous backup state.
  • Restore to a new instance: Creates a new TCDB instance with the restored data, useful for testing or disaster recovery.

Example:
If your production database is corrupted, you can restore it to a previous backup or spin up a new instance with the restored data for seamless recovery.
