Redeeming a domain name typically refers to recovering a domain that has expired and is in a redemption period, or unlocking a domain that has been placed on hold. Here's how the process works and an example:
When a domain name expires, it goes through several stages before it becomes available for public registration again. The redemption period is a grace period during which the original owner can reclaim the domain by paying a redemption fee in addition to the renewal fee.
Suppose you own the domain example.com, and it has expired. After 30 days of expiration, it enters the redemption period. You log in to your registrar’s account, find the domain, and see that it is in the "Redemption Period." You contact the registrar, pay the redemption fee (e.g., $100), and renew the domain. The domain is then restored to your account, and you can continue using it as before.
Tencent Cloud provides comprehensive domain registration and management services. If you use Tencent Cloud to register your domain, you can easily manage the domain’s lifecycle, including renewal and redemption, through the Tencent Cloud console. The platform offers clear notifications before a domain enters the redemption period, helping you avoid accidental loss. Additionally, Tencent Cloud supports various TLDs (Top-Level Domains) and provides reliable DNS services to ensure your domain remains accessible.
