What is Threat Detection and Response?

Threat Detection and Response (TDR) refers to the processes, tools, and technologies used to identify, analyze, and mitigate cybersecurity threats within an IT environment. It involves continuously monitoring systems for suspicious activities, detecting potential attacks, and taking swift action to neutralize them before they cause damage.

Key Components:

  1. Threat Detection: Identifying anomalies or malicious behavior using tools like intrusion detection systems (IDS), endpoint detection and response (EDR), and security information and event management (SIEM).
  2. Threat Analysis: Investigating detected threats to determine their scope, impact, and origin.
  3. Response: Taking actions such as isolating affected systems, blocking malicious traffic, or deploying patches to eliminate the threat.

A company uses TDR to monitor its network. An EDR tool detects unusual file access patterns on an employee's workstation, suggesting a potential ransomware attack. The security team analyzes the logs, confirms the threat, and isolates the workstation to prevent further spread while removing the malware.
