Mastering OpenClaw | A Quick Guide to Integrating OpenClaw (Clawdbot) into WhatsApp on the Cloud

Preliminary Preparations

Before configuring WhatsApp for OpenClaw (Clawdbot), please check the following:

  • Do you have one or two WhatsApp accounts ready? (The number of accounts depends on whether you are configuring a separate account for OpenClaw.) Recommendation: Dedicated account for OpenClaw will provide a better experience.
  • Do you have already deployed and configured OpenClaw on a Lighthouse server instance (overseas regions recommended), and is it version 2026.2.3 or higher?

Note for first-time users: If you haven’t deployed OpenClaw yet, start with Tencent Cloud OpenClaw first. You can launch your OpenClaw instance in seconds with one click, then come back to this guide to explore more advanced use cases.

If you already have a previously deployed OpenClaw application template, but it is not the latest version, you can refer to the tutorial to update the version: How to Update the Server OpenClaw Application Version

Step 1. Configure the OpenClaw Model

1.Log in and enter the Console.

2.Locate "Tencent Cloud Lighthouse".

3.Find the Instance you just purchased.

4.Go to the "Pre-installed application" tab.

5.Choose a suitable model/existing API

The Models list only displays models that are available for use in this region:
due to access or service restrictions on some models in specific regions, the system will not display models that are not currently supported in the current region.

If this is your first time using this service, after selecting a suitable model, click "Get API KEY" below to purchase the model's credit limit and obtain the key.

Step 2: Integrating with WhatsApp

1.In the application channel settings, select WhatsApp.

2.Click go and authorize

3.A Paringcode notification will pop up; click "Got it".

4.Please wait a moment until a QR code appears.

Open WhatsApp on your phone
go to Settings > Linked Devices > Link a Device, then scan the QR code below.

⚠️ OpenClaw WhatsApp Usage Tips (Important)
See guide: WhatsApp Access Control & Security Configuration Guide
Currently, OpenClaw on WhatsApp uses pairing mode, which essentially takes over the user's message entry point.

Therefore, the following may occur:

👉 The system defaults to sending notification messages to recent chat contacts.

👉 It looks like "actively sending messages to contacts."

How to avoid this problem

We recommend using the following two methods to control it:

  1. Private Mode
Triggers OpenClaw only in specified conversations
    Avoids affecting other normal chats.

  2. Allow List Mode
Allows only specific users/numbers to trigger OpenClaw. Unauthorized users will not receive any automatic messages.

  1. The following image indicates successful deployment.

Search for yourself, converse with yourself—this is your robot.

Now you can chat with the integrated OpenClaw bot in WhatsApp.

Personal Experience

After integrating OpenClaw into WhatsApp, it’s not just an “AI that chats with you,” but a personal agent that’s always online and can directly operate cloud servers. Through natural language conversations, I delegate daily, mundane, but repetitive tasks directly to it.
