This document describes the strengths of TDMQ for CKafka (CKafka) compared to Apache Kafka.

Strengths and Features

100% compatibility with Apache Kafka and easy migration

CKafka is compatible with Apache Kafka 2.4, 2.8, and 3.2.
Business systems that use CKafka can rely on existing Apache Kafka ecosystem client code, be migrated to the cloud without any code changes, and take advantage of the high-performance service provided by CKafka.

High Performance

The Tencent Cloud message queue team has further fine-tuned the service performance to eliminate complex parameter configurations and provide higher performance.
CKafka supports GUI-based upgrades and runs on a high-performance Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) layer, delivering 10% to 20% higher production performance than Apache Kafka.

High Availability

Leveraging Tencent's years of technical experience with monitoring platforms, clusters receive comprehensive, multi-dimensional monitoring, backed by a professional Ops team that handles alarms 24/7 to ensure high service availability.
Pro Edition supports customization of multi-AZ deployment in the same region. This enhances disaster recovery capabilities.

High Reliability

Highly reliable disks ensure service continuity even if 50% of server disks fail.
By default, 2 replicas are configured, with support for 1 to 3 replicas. More replicas provide higher reliability.

Parallel Scaling

When the cluster traffic and disk capacity exceed the alarm threshold, automatic scale-out is supported, which is transparent to clients.
CKafka eliminates the long-term pain points of data migration in Apache Kafka and enables imperceptible configuration upgrades.

Data Security

CKafka provides various security features such as authentication, authorization, root account, and sub-account, enabling enterprise-level security protection.
Tencent Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC): Access from a more secure Tencent Cloud VPC network is supported.
Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) authentication methods are supported, making public network access more secure.
Root account and sub-account: Tencent Cloud Access Management (CAM) features, such as root account, sub-account, and collaborator, are fully supported, enabling cross-account authorization services between root accounts/sub-accounts and across enterprises.

Advantages of Connecting with Neighboring Services

Integration with Cloud Services

CKafka can be easily connected to other Tencent Cloud services such as Cloud Object Storage (COS) and Elastic MapReduce (EMR).

Kafka Connector

CKafka supports data transfer with Apache Kafka Connector. This way, data can be exchanged between two Kafka clusters.
