Logging In to Linux Instances via OrcaTerm (Recommended)
Last updated: 2025-09-30 16:39:06
This document describes how to use OrcaTerm for one-click login to a Linux instance.

Scenarios

OrcaTerm is the recommended login method for Tencent Cloud. It can be used for login regardless of whether your local system is Windows, Linux, or macOS.
OrcaTerm has the following advantages:
Support for copy and paste with shortcut keys.
Support for scrolling with the mouse.
High security. A password or key is required for each login.

Authentication Method

Password or Key.

Prerequisites

The administrator account and password (or key) for logging in to the Linux instance have been obtained.
If you select Random password during instance creation, go to the Message Center to obtain the password (view the internal message with the title CVM Created Successfully).
If you have set a login password, use it to log in. If you forget the password, see Resetting Instance Password to reset it.
If a key is bound to the instance, use the key to log in. For more information, see SSH Keys.
The remote connection port (22 by default) with the source of the OrcaTerm proxy IP address has been bypassed in the security group associated with the instance.
If you purchase a Cloud Virtual Machine (CVM) instance with quick configurations, this port is bypassed by default.
If you purchase a CVM instance with custom configurations, see Scenario 1: remotely connecting to a Linux CVM via SSH to manually bypass the port.

Operation Steps

1. Log in to the CVM console.
2. On the instance management page, perform operations based on the actual view mode used:

Subsequent Operations

After you log in to the CVM instance successfully, you can build a personal website or forum on this instance. You can also perform other operations.
To build a personal website, see Building a WordPress Website (Linux).
To build a forum, see Building Up a Discuz! Forum.
